Subject: Please Support the Botox Testing Ban

Dear [TD’s Name],

I’m writing to urge you to support the Animal Health and Welfare (Prohibition of Animal Testing for Botox) (Amendment) Bill 2024, introduced by Paul Murphy TD. This bill seeks to end the use of the cruel and outdated LD50 test on mice for botox-type products in Ireland.

Each year, tens of thousands of mice suffer and die in these tests—paralysed, gasping for air, and denied pain relief. In 2022 alone, around 32,000 mice were used for botox testing here. These tests are classified as “severe” and cause extreme suffering.

Alternatives such as cell-based assays already exist and have been validated for use with many botox products. Ireland should lead the way by embracing humane, scientifically advanced methods.

Please take a stand against unnecessary animal suffering and support this important bill as it progresses through the Dáil.

Kind regards,

Promoting Animal Free Methods Of Research while actively working towards a significant decrease of animals used in science every year. We maintain a high standard of mediation with policyholders, universities and independent biotech companies. We welcome fair and realistic communication with those who are part of animal testing in some way. Our fundamental goal is to reach high levels of exceptional research in Ireland without the use of animals. We want a full and permanent ban of animals being used in science research. The development and implementation of using animal free methods is absolutely imperative. For stakeholders who seek this avenue it will be a very profitable direction to go in
