About SAFRIreland

Support Animal Free Research Ireland

SAFRIreland promotes ethical, human-relevant science without using animals. Our mission is to work alongside organisations worldwide to help phase out animal experiments completely — championing the success and accuracy of innovative new technologies being developed across Europe and the world.

Active campaign

Ban Botox Testing on Animals

Every year, thousands of mice are subjected to the LD50 test to batch-test Botox potency. Cell-based assay alternatives have been available since 2011. Short-term beauty should never come at the cost of animal suffering. We are demanding this test is banned now.

Why this matters

🔬

The science has moved on

Modern alternatives are faster, more accurate for humans, and already in use by leading researchers worldwide.

🌍

Regulations are changing

The EU is preparing a landmark roadmap to phase out animal testing. Global momentum is building fast.

🐇

Animals deserve better

Millions of animals are still used in labs each year. There is now no scientific justification for this.

🤝

You can help

Share, educate, and support campaigns pushing brands, regulators, and labs to make the switch.

Successful alternative methods

Organ on a chip

Microdevices lined with living human cells that mimic real organ behaviour.

Human organoids

Miniature 3D tissue models grown from human stem cells.

AI models

Machine learning that predicts toxicity and drug responses with high accuracy.

Stem cells

Human stem cells used to study disease and test treatments safely.

Scaffolds

3D structures that support human tissue growth for testing.

Computer modelling

Digital simulations of biological systems replacing live testing.

Tissue engineering

Lab-grown human tissues that replicate real biological responses.
